“Green City Action is an established and award winning environmental charity serving the disadvantaged and multicultural ward of Burngreave in Sheffield and the surrounding area. We are committed to raising awareness of environmental issues in our multicultural community and working together to improve the environment for all.”
Recent projects include their “School for Vegetables” project, where local school-children visit their community allotment to learn food-growing skills. Adults are also invited, and the group has trained people in growing fruit and vegetables and are currently raising funds for a new project that aims to “tackle food poverty and health inequalities through a family approach and local community group empowerment”.
The local hub for the Wildlife Trust manages 12 nature reserves including moorland city centre nature parks, and works to regularly carry out wildlife-friendly conservation and land management work. They are involved in waterway regeneration along Sheffield’s network of streams, rivers and canals, and engage the community with their work via a wide range of events. Their education team works to engage children and young people in environmental issues by running outdoor play projects and providing education opportunities at our nature reserves and other green spaces across the city.
